Summer Camp FAQ's

Frequently Asked Questions

Question 1: Is my son ready to attend a wrestling camp?

Answer: First, let me describe that there are camps that cater to wrestlers of all ability and age.

Resident Camps: I would characterize the Chertow Wrestling camp as a "Resident Camp". Resident camps are multi day camps where participants stay overnight. These camps are for kids who are serious about wrestling and improving their skills. There is not a lot of down-time and other activities at these camps. Make no doubt, you basically eat, wrestle, and sleep. There are a few breaks during the day so kids do get a chance to swim or chill out..but like i said, this is a wrestling camp.

Day Camps: There are a number of commuter day camps in the local N.E. Ohio Area. Information on Day Camps is often posted to the various wrestling chat boards or on www.ohiowrestler.com.

My recommendation
1) For kids who have never been to a camp before, they should attend a day camp first before considering a Resident Camp.
2) For kids who have been to at least one day camp and has been wrestling for at least a year, the Resident camps offer a tremendous opportunity for skill development.

Question 2: What duration would you recommend for the Resident Camps?

Answer: Error on the side of conservatism...don't throw them into a 6 day resident camp unless they are serious about the sport and have proven themselves to handle shorter duration resident camps.....Set the expectation....NO PHONE CALLS HOME REQUESTING EARLY PICKUP.....once you are dopped off, you're there for the duration.

Question 3: Will my child wrestle with other kids of his size and ability?

Answer: Yes, the camp directors do their best to group kids according to size, age, and ability.

Question 4: Where can i find more information on the camps?

Answer: Feel free to give any of our coaches a call. Alterntively, most of the resident camps have pretty detailed websites. For general listing of camps, try www.ohiowrestler.com.
